Establish Baseline
Measure and document building performance
Bernhard has long been recognized as a leader in Building Systems performance and energy conservation. While the vast majority of facilities are designed to be energy efficient, actual data indicates that very few of these facilities actually perform in the predicted manner. Bernhard has discovered that the most common cause of sub-standard performance is poorly written and insufficiently tested building automatic system programming. We have responded to this challenge by developing proven sequences of operation and single loop programming instructions for all types of HVAC systems. Within the industry, our document is commonly referred to as the “Book of Code.”
Bernhard takes a unique approach to retro-commissioning. We go beyond a simple study or ASHRAE Level 3 Audit by performing activities to generate immediate savings. Some firms view retro-commissioning as “re-commissioning” the facility back to its original design. At Bernhard, we understand that design practices are always changing to increase efficiency. That’s why we maximize the building’s existing design by applying new and improved methods for reducing energy consumption.
Without a single exception, our work has yielded substantial energy cost savings. Typical savings have been 35 percent of baseline consumption and costs. Bernhard has been recognized by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Federal Energy Management Program, and Department of Energy for its energy conservation work.
