Originally built in 1952, the Golden Library underwent a full renovation to modernize the facility and increase energy efficiency of the building. Eastern New Mexico University transformed it into a modern student support space, combining traditional library holdings with student support services and flexible study areas. Bernhard was engaged to provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services and construction administration.

The team incorporated many sustainable features to achieve the project’s goal of LEED Gold certification. The building’s mechanical system is served by a new heat pump chiller that is connected to the campus’s existing district energy system. An active chilled beam system was also included in the design to reduce ductwork and improve HVAC system efficiency.

The building was re-named the Golden Student Success Center and opened in August 2018. The revamped facility achieved LEED Gold certification in May 2019.
