Pulaski County Special School District was in need of a new middle school to continue to serve the student’s needs. As part of the project team, Bernhard provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, lighting and structural design, construction administration, and energy modeling.
The new school was designed to achieve LEED certification while providing a modernized learning environment for 800 students. The building includes state-of-the-art classrooms, a competition gym, an indoor football training field, multiple media labs, and a practice gym that doubles as a storm shelter.
Part of the LEED design incorporates an automated building controls system for lighting and HVAC that is integrated with the existing energy management system. The controls monitor the daylight entering the building and adjust light levels and temperature settings to automatically save energy costs.
