Lafayette Regional Airport chose to build a new terminal that would expand service to the region and provide for state-of-the-art facilities. The new facility includes five departure and arrival gates, new baggage handling system, two security screening lines, 194 security cameras throughout the building, new LED lighting, two food service/dining areas, two Mother’s Rooms, an indoor Service Animal Relief Area, and an increase of 200 parking spaces. Once complete, the old terminal will be demolished to make room for future expansion.

Bernhard provided mechanical and electrical construction for the 120,000 square foot terminal. The existing terminal and airport service facilities remained open and operational while the new terminal was constructed. Lafayette Regional Airport has been a long-term customer of Bernhard’s HVAC maintenance and service, allowing our team to leverage knowledge of the facility’s operations during construction. This included carefully staging and mobilizing construction crews to remain out of the way of airport operations, ensuring proper removal of construction waste, and meeting all airport security requirements. Our team also utilized pre-fabrication of HVAC system components to minimize on-site construction time.

The new terminal is expected to open in January 2022. Bernhard’s team is supporting the transition to the new terminal with on-going HVAC maintenance and service.
