Ochsner Lafayette General Medical center is expanding its campus to enhance women’s services and newborn care. The Mother-Baby renovation and expansion project includes labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, C-section rooms, NICU beds, and office upgrades. At the same time, the central utility plant is being upgraded to serve the expanded hospital.
Bernhard is providing mechanical and electrical construction on the project. The primary challenge is completing construction activities while the hospital remains occupied and fully operational. Our team has worked closely with facility personnel to minimize disruption to the hospital, including sensitive spaces such as surgery, in-patient, and COVID treatment areas. Necessary central plant shutdowns are scheduled in advance and closely coordinated to ensure no impact on patient care. In addition, the team is leveraging pre-fabrication to minimize on-site construction activities. All rooftop and cooling tower piping is being manufactured off-site and delivered for installation.
The project is expected to be complete in 2022.
