Bernhard Energy Solutions™ provided mechanical services for a renovation and expansion project at Gulfport Memorial Hospital in Mississippi. This project consisted of a five-story renovation, two-story addition and a mechanical penthouse. The project encompassed more than 90,000 square feet of renovated and new space to accommodate 115 patient rooms. The additional space required 580 tons of added cooling. Bernhard™ provided services for the HVAC and plumbing scopes, which include chilled water, heating water, steam, medical gas and traditional plumbing systems.
The project also expanded the central energy plant and replaced a steam boiler to provide additional space and performance capacity to feed the 450-bed hospital. A new 1,000-ton chiller and cooling tower were installed, along with two new chilled water pumps to enhance cooling capacity. A chilled water loop featuring 24” pipe was also installed. The steam boilers in the existing central plant were replaced with two 400 hp dual fuel-fired steam boilers and a deaerator tank. Other features include two new condenser water pumps, six exhaust fans to tie into the emergency generators and a 6” domestic water line.
