Children’s Hospital of New Orleans

Bernhard provided electrical construction on the expansion of Children’s Hospital New Orleans in Uptown New Orleans. The expansion was part of a $300 million investment in Children’s Hospital of New Orleans campus to transform the campus into a state-of-the-art facility for pediatric care.

The 275,000 square foot expansion added a 28-room cardiac intensive care unit, 12 operating rooms, 45 emergency rooms, 24 rooms in the new cancer center and updated equipment for MRIs, CT scans and infusions. More than 122,000 square feet were renovated in the Center & West Towers, Research Building and Ambulatory Care Center and a 600-vehicle parking garage. The campus’s existing central utility plant was expanded to serve the new space.

The project was carefully phased and executed over a period of four years. The existing hospital remained fully operational during the construction process, which added complexity to the project and required close coordination amongst the project team.
