ALABAMA POWER COMPANY
- Size: 115 kV
- Construction Cost: $12 Million
- Services: Electrical Construction
- Completion Date: 2009
This project involved the procurement and construction of the 18th Street South 115-15kV Substation for Alabama Power Company. The construction of the new substation required removing a section of the existing underground 115kV oil-insulated transmission line and installing a new 115kV transmission to tie together two existing substations in downtown Birmingham. The new substation required the installation of 15kV switchgear, which also had two distribution circuits exiting underground. This project was constructed on an active college campus with minimal disruption to the facility’s daily routine. The project also included the installation of three miles of overhead fiber optics for Alabama Power Operations communication.
