Bernhard Energy Solutions™ provided services for this multi-phased energy audit and retro-commissioning project at Texas Children’s Hospital. Bernhard™ reviewed the building’s Energy Star Portfolio, and conducted a supply-side audit to identify potential demand-side energy cost reduction opportunities. The program started with the West Tower, and has expanded to encompass two research buildings and a medical office building.
Bernhard™ also wrote the facility’s strategic energy plan, and developed standards for HVAC designs and BAS graphics. The team then implemented measures to verify actual energy savings on a monthly basis. Actual energy costs savings to date are in excess of $1.6 million annually.
Through this project, Texas Children’s Hospital has also successfully combined their security monitoring, critical building alarms monitoring and security/maintenance dispatch into one centralized location, and streamlined the dispatching of maintenance personnel to respond to customer complainants. An essential component of the success of this program is the changes that were made to the building automation system. These changes included implementing O&M dashboards, alarm hierarchies and consistent navigation paths. These allow multiple operators to be more efficiently trained to respond to building automation system alarms and service calls from the customers.
