Bernhard Energy Solutions™ provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and structural design services, as well as construction administration and commissioning, for a new 36,750-square-foot Operations Data Center for Southwest Power Pool. Southwest Power Pool is a non-profit organization that manages the critical infrastructure of the electric grid for nine states.
The Operations Data Center consists of a hardened component equivalent to tier III construction and a non-hardened administrative support component. The 18,000-square-foot hardened area contains the control room with supervisor offices, the data center and the mechanical gallery. Various mechanical and electrical support spaces are located in the 8,800-square-foot basement, directly below the data center. The 9,500-square-foot administrative area contains offices, an open administrative area, a loading dock, receiving space, IT lab, a large conference room, storage rooms, a break room and restrooms. The entire center is enclosed with security perimeter fencing. The facility is designed to allow for a minimum of three levels of security access. Structural design features for the facility include post-tension concrete, structural steel and a monumental staircase. Other features include hot aisle enclosures to reduce fan energy costs, separate dehumidification and space pressurization equipment and controls, variable frequency drive fan control, heat recovery and Class B Continuous Cooling.
